Cape York Novelty Number plate - Aluminium with embossed border

CAPE YORK  of course features Cape York Peninsula – a large remote peninsula located in Far North Queensland, Australia. In area it is 288,804 km2 bounded by three bodies of water – the Coral Sea, Torres Strait and Gulf of Carpentaria.  It is the largest unspoiled wilderness in northern Australia.  The land is mostly flat and about half of the area is used for grazing cattle. The relatively undisturbed eucalyptus wooded savannahs, tropical rainforests and other types of habitat are now recognized and preserved for their global environmental significance, but native wildlife is threatened by introduced species and weeds

The Cape York Telegraph Line was a telegraph line built in 1887 and stretched from Laura to Thursday Island. The northern section of the Old Telegraph Track, which runs from Bamaga Road to the Jardine River Ferry, is perhaps the quintessential Cape York 4WD experience undertaken by hundreds of outdoor adventure seekers annually. Nowadays the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) runs 571 km from Lakeland to Weipa, and its the main road transport link within Cape York Peninsula and to the rest of the Australian mainland. The segment from Weipa Town to 43 km south of the town is within the Rio Tinto mine lease.
